its an 11:30 am kick off as its a special ground hopper day they are watching three games in one day
Bridlington Town v Scarborough
Pickering Town v Worksop
Tadcaster v Barton Town
once we arrived at Queensgate thats me Graham and Stuart they are both Boro fans but very good friends so we always attend the derbies together we see a few guys taking photo's of the sign outside the ground they was snapping all sorts of random things to do with their day.
The match had to kick off at 11:30 and would not be delayed, it was a very good game with a bumper crowd of 1247 although there was some confusion about this as it went around the ground that the attendance was 1569 but whatever the correct attendance i am sure Mr Smurthwaite will have been happy.
believe me i was a bag of nerves about this game and it was Boro who took the lead with a long shot that seemed to slip under Wilberforce i think he should have held it, Paddy Miller got the goal and Stu and Graham celebrated by grabbing me and shaking me about (no nice) the Bus shelter was cram packed full and was probably 75% Boro fans we were probably outnumbered on the day 3 or 4 to 1 but they are an ex Football league club so it was expected but they were great with some really good banter that had us in stitches.
it was just two minutes later when we caught Boro on the break and my player of the year Chris Batchelor slotted the ball past the Boro keeper to level things up, it was really strange the massive crowd were silenced apart from a little roar from the Town fans i would think maybe 200 to 250 at the most but we were back in the game.
both teams were creating good chances and there was some right feisty tackles going in a typical derby really.
on 40 mins Nathan Cook (a Scarborough lad) put Brid 2-1 ahead and the abuse from some of the Scarborough fans was awful but probably expected, he had a strange celebration covering one eye and waving a bit of a strange one that.
Again both sides creating chances Scott Phillips who has been in good form lately had a one on one but his shot was easily saved.
and just before half time Boro had a player down injured some of the fans were screaming at their own players to kick the ball out of play but they carried on playing. and how it paid off and shot that Wilberforce should have saved deflected up and Jimmy Beadle headed the ball into the net to make it 2-2 right on half time.
Its only three minutes in to the second half and one of the best young strikers at this level Ryan Blott has put his side 3-2 up (Stuart told me his dad was once Manager of Brid Town) and once again i have been shaken from pillow to post with their celebrations. i fear the worst now and expect Boro to go on and win the game.
i honestly think on the day we were just slightly the better side we created so many chances it was such a shame that Scott Phillips forgot his boots he hits the post and missed two other good chances.
we do get back in to the game and its another Scarborough lad Josh Greening who puts us level he is another very good young player that has done us proud. he found him self one on one with the Boro keeper whom he beat and slotted the ball in to the net. Graham and Stu are gutted and Stu says ill take that now a draw would be a fair result and i agree its been a very good game.
both sides created chance after chance Chris Batchelor tried an auditious lob from the half way line when he spots the Boro keeper of his line but it goes wide.
Then we suffer a blow our tough tackling Captain Tom Fleming is shown a second yellow card its our first red of the season and in a game we didnt really need it yes were down to 10 men with about 10 minutes to go against the strongest Boro side i have seen. not looking good for us now,
Craig Hogg who has scored over 100 goals for Brid Town comes on he has had a big dip in form recently so i was praying for him to come good today, he is one of them players that looks very lazy but on his day can produce a moment of magic and with minutes to go the Boro keeper made an excellent save from a Hogg shot.
again Phillips had another great chance to win the game but his shot rolled of his shin and went straight in to the keepers hands when it was probably easier to score.
the game was marred by the nasty injury to Frank Belt who had to be taken away in an ambulance he had dislocated his elbow. hope he gets well soon he is a nice lad.
all in all this was an excellent game of football and probably a fair result and i am sure the ground hoppers will have enjoyed this game as much as we did.
10 out 10 for me. and me and the lads had a great night in Town talking about it over a few beers.
